What is Rolfing®?
Rolfing® is a holistic form of manual therapy developed by Dr. Ida Rolf, a pioneering woman of her era. She initially earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry before becoming an associate professor at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. Dr. Rolf dedicated her life to studying human anatomy, the body’s relationship to gravity, and its capacity for self-healing. Her groundbreaking work led to the development of Structural Integration—a revolutionary approach to improving the body’s alignment and function—which was later nicknamed “Rolfing” by her students and patients, a name that endured. Her work focused on realigning the body with gravity, and through specific movement and manipulation of connective tissue (fascia), she demonstrated that it is possible to restore functionality and balance to the human structure.
Dr. Rolf’s innovative methods are highly effective in addressing postural issues, relieving chronic pain, enhancing mobility, and supporting recovery from trauma. More than fifty years ago, she recognized that the body is inherently a system of seamless tissue networks rather than a collection of separate parts. These connective tissues surround, support, and penetrate all muscles, bones, nerves, and organs.
Rolfing® Structural Integration works on this web-like network of connective tissues to release, realign, and balance the entire body, potentially resolving discomfort, reducing compensations, and alleviating pain. Rolfing® Structural Integration aims to restore flexibility, revitalize your energy, and help you feel more at ease and comfortable in your body.

The Rolfing Ten-Series™
The hallmark of Rolfing® Structural Integration is a standardized "recipe" known as the Rolfing Ten-Series™, which systematically balances and optimizes the structure and function of the entire body over ten Rolfing® sessions. Each session within the series has a unique set of goals and specific territory that is covered, but the individual needs of each client are always considered, and no two sessions are ever the same.
Sessions 1-3
"The Sleeve Sessions"
The focus of the first 3 sessions is to lengthen, open, and organize the superficial fascial layers. Attention is given to increasing easeful breathing, building support, and defining the body in three-dimensional space. We begin to redefine our relationship to the gravitational field in which we all exist as we lay the groundwork for deeper work in subsequent sessions and lasting change.
Sessions 4-7
"The Core Sessions"
Having prepared the body appropriately, our focus turns to deeper fascial layers and structural relationships. It is quite a profound journey of reawakening and discovery.
Sessions 8-10
"Integration"
In these sessions, we enhance the new structural order to support dynamic function. We enhance the structure's overall continuity while addressing any remaining restrictions. These sessions serve to stabilize the changes made and bring closure to the series as a whole.
